On-site survey on mobile devices (MOBI)
The MOBI survey is a direct face-to-face interview
conducted with respondents using tablets,
smartphones, or palm-tops.
The interview is based on a previously prepared questionnaire.
The respondents’ answers are automatically saved in the system.
We can use different types of questions in the MOBI survey:
- closed (i.e., questions with provided answers),
- semi-open (open questions, with an option to enter custom answer),
- completely open (i.e., questions allowing only the respondent’s answer), multiple and single-choice questions, as well as questions with a scale (e.g. five-point, where 1 means definitely no, and 5 means definitely yes).
The computer program displays the questions in the correct order. The interviewer’s task is to read the displayed question and possible answers, then select the response chosen by the respondent using the mouse (or touchpad), or to type the answer for open or semi-open questions using the keyboard.
The MOBI technique, like any quantitative method, is based on a standardized questionnaire (identical for all respondents).
Thanks to the results collected using the MOBI technique— just like with any quantitative methods—we can compare different groups of respondents and identify potential differences (e.g., responses from younger and older individuals).
These studies are particularly important in situations where diagnosing an action or phenomenon is necessary, as well as in assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of specific activities, brand and product recognition, etc.
The research results are presented in numbers or percentages, allowing conclusions to be presented in an accessible and clear format (e.g., through charts and infographics). Moreover, such studies can be repeated, enabling comparisons of results with each repetition (e.g., to capture changes over time) because the questionnaire is fully standardized.
The MOBI study begins with the design of a questionnaire (commonly referred to as a survey).
Next, the prepared questionnaire is entered into the IT system (a specialized program), where a script is created to enable the implementation of the study in the MOBI format. This tool, once incorporated into the system, is meticulously checked by us, primarily focusing on the so-called transition rules, which govern the sequence in which the survey is completed. Thanks to this two-step verification, we are 100% confident that the survey is constructed correctly.
Then, the field research phase begins: interviewers meet face-to-face with selected respondents and conduct interviews, recording their answers. The respondents’ answers are automatically saved in the system. Throughout the study, we maintain strict oversight of the interviewers’ performance.
We also monitor the results database to ensure the correctness of transitions and the accuracy of saved responses.”
A study conducted using the MOBI technique may have various goals
and assumptions. It can be successfully applied to any type of research.
The MOBI survey allows for the creation of both simple statistics and complex analyses.
MOBI is most commonly used in consumer opinion research, market research, and social research.
It is also utilized in studies of brand recognition and purchasing preferences.
The undeniable strengths of the MOBI technique, like those of other quantitative methods, include:
- the ability to compare results from different respondent groups, as the questionnaire remains consistent within a single study (or subpopulation),
- the capacity to present research findings in an accessible and visually appealing manner (e.g., using charts and infographics).
Moreover, the MOBI survey can be conducted in a variety of settings, including both enclosed venues and open spaces.
To date, we have had the opportunity to work with various institutions and companies interested in obtaining statistics in specific areas. The research conducted was aimed at helping them advance their plans and attract new clients.

FAQ
MOBI is a face-to-face interview conducted between an interviewer and a respondent using a digital survey system. The interviewer reads each question and available answers aloud (or matches the respondent’s answers to those displayed on the computer) and then records the response in the system. The data is automatically saved on secure servers.
A MOBI study involves a conversation where the interviewer reads questions and response options to the respondent, or matches their answers to those available, and records them in the system. The results are saved in real-time on secure servers.
MOBI can be applied in various types of research but is most commonly used in commercial and consumer studies.
These interviews typically last anywhere from a few minutes to about an hour, depending on the complexity.
One key advantage is the efficiency of gathering reliable data while ensuring high accuracy. The results, presented quantitatively, are both engaging and clear.
